Fitness After Weight Loss Surgery

As with any weight loss procedure, fitness is a key component for success.

In the first few weeks, daily walking outside or on a treadmill is recommended. Other fitness can include swimming (after incisions are healed) and biking on the stationary recumbent bike. Indoor fitness in your own home or at a gym is highly encouraged due to the ease and comfort of exercising in air conditioning.

Unfortunately, the hot, humid Florida weather does not always help us to be regular with our fitness endeavors. The heat, humidity and rainy season can also provide excuses and reasons for us not to exercise. Weight training, exercise classes, the elliptical machine, rowing machines, etc. should not be used until you are 6 weeks post-op.
